10 Things I’m Grateful For

Hey everyone! We are approaching the end of the year and with that in mind, I decided to share with you a few of the things I’m grateful for this year. Too often we get overwhelmed by the not so good stuff going on around us, we forget to acknowledge the good things that happened or the good things that came out of the mess.

It’s important to show gratitude, for the big things and the little things. My list is not exhaustive and only highlights a fraction of things I’m grateful for, for the sake of keeping this short and sweet.

My health

I do not take the fact that I’m healthy and have been healthy this year lightly. I had to work during this pandemic, meet people and all that but through all that, I’m still healthy so I’m grateful for that. Related to this is my gratitude for my sense of smell and taste because people have lost that due to Covid. I’m grateful I can still taste and smell.

My blog

I’m so grateful for my little space on the internet. It has introduced me to amazing people and it gives me something to look forward to each week. It helps me work on commitment and actually following things through. I’m grateful that it’s growing and so many people are giving my work a chance. I’m grateful for everyone who has written on the blog and has contributed to it in any way. I’m grateful for you, reading this right now.
I’m grateful for a platform that helps others and helps me too.
This is without a doubt one of my biggest achievements this year and a true example of what happens when you stay committed to something and stay consistent.

University

Uni stresses me so much but I’m so grateful that I am where I am right now in school. I think about how I’m in my fourth year of engineering school at least 5 times a day because it’s honestly hard for me to believe. It’s been a difficult journey but I’m here. I’m grateful for the experience and even the opportunity to be studying where I am. I’m grateful for everyone I have met along the way and I’m grateful that I’m working on my thesis now even though it’s stressing me and I’m behind schedule. I’m grateful for the opportunity to help others whenever and just be a final year student.
I really intend to write more about university for the sake of keeping memories somewhere. I’m in the last lap of this chapter of my life so I’d like to write it down so that many years from now, I can read through it. I’m definitely squeezing that into my plans for next year.

My Family

I’m grateful for my family. I’m grateful to God for keeping us. I’m grateful that we have a roof over our heads and have food to eat every night. I’m so grateful for my brothers. I’m grateful that they are funny because I can’t imagine having siblings with no sense of humor. I’ve always said that I do everything that I do for God first, and then for my boys. I’m so grateful for my sister Aness and additional brothers Chitengi and Jimmy. I love them so much!

My Friends

I’m grateful for everyone in my circle. I could name everyone, because it’s small, but I’m trying to keep this short! Special mentions: I’m grateful for my best friends Masi and Reuben. These two literally support me through anything. I could tell Reuben I want to fly and he will help me find wings lol. I’m grateful for Njavwa who has unknowingly helped keep me sane over these last few months and for Myers who has inspired this part of the post.

Another special mention: I’m grateful for Wana. He has been a constant in my life and honestly having some consistency or something constant is good (if you know what I mean). I’m grateful that he pushes me and encourages me to do things I’d want to do but I’m scared to (even if I don’t listen sometimes). I’m grateful because he answers all my “What is…” questions because there are (many) times when I just don’t know stuff lol. That means a lot to me.

I’m grateful for all my friends. For how they love me, deal with me, help me and for being who they are. They are definitely the best bunch.

My Internship

A few months ago I did my internship with engineering consultants in Malaysia. I’m grateful for that opportunity more especially in the middle of a pandemic when people have had difficulty finding jobs or keeping jobs. I do not take that lightly. Also, it was a really good and fun learning experience even though I think working life is not for me. It turns out I have no choice though.

Food

I’m grateful for food. I always say food doesn’t phase me or we could have done without food but thinking about it now, that’s speaking from a place of privilege.
So, I’m grateful that food is available for me to eat everyday and I have clean water to drink.

Life

I’m grateful for life and the chance to be alive. Life has not been so exciting this year and some days have really been harder than others. But, through all that, I’m just happy to be alive today and given another chance to chase my dreams, make things right and just live.

Faith

I’m grateful for my faith. I’m grateful that when I’m happy or I’m sad, I always have God looking out for me. I’m grateful that I am perfectly loved by a perfect God who is patient with me even when I’m not patient with myself.

Sleep, music, etc.

I’m grateful for sleep. I’ve been doing a lot of sleeping lately (which has to stop) and as good as it makes me feel, I ended up being unproductive. But still, I’m grateful for sleep. I’m also grateful for music because it really does a lot for me. I’m grateful for everything that helps me relax.

That’s 10 things! Like I said, there’s is so much more I’m grateful for, so many people I’m grateful for but this particular list ends here.
Don’t forget to take a few minutes to acknowledge what you’re grateful for today.
Fun fact: I burnt my tongue whilst writing this post so now I’m grateful for the ability to feel lol.

What are you grateful for this year? Who are you grateful for this year? Please let me know in the comments.

Thanks for reading!
Love,
Wonani Xx

Thank you! I don’t know what I did right to have her but I’m so glad I have her 😂♥️
