Women’s Month Series Q+A with Bolaji Gelax and Delyse Gimani

Hey everyone! I hope you are all doing well and your week is off to a good start! This is the third week of the Women’s Month Series and I’m so happy with the last two posts so if you haven’t seen them, make sure you do!

This week, I decided to have a question and answer session. However, instead of me answering them, I decided to bring along and introduce you to two extremely lovely and talented people, Bolaji Gelax and Delyse Gimani. A little background? Sure.

Bolaji Gelax is a Nigerian blogger, Actor, Writer, V.O Artist and she loves playing Devil’s Advocate. Her blog is called Gelax Chatroom and she has the most interesting stories to tell. Her energy is so contagious and she is someone I would LOVE to meet. She has really amazing content and if you ever hear that I’m travelling to Nigeria, you should know I’m following her. She is literally a queen of a galaxy I’m so glad to be a part of. She recently wrote about how African women are not the strongest and honestly, truer words have never been spoken. She also has a lot of funny and entertaining relationship content. Don’t say I didn’t put you on.

Delyse Gimani is a Zimbabwean blogger and owner of the brand Thick’N’Stylish. That should tell you something about her. She is a Stylist, a Plus Size & Fashion Blogger, Body Positivity and Confidence Connoisseur, a Social Media Manager, a Content Creator at large and a Writer. I know! All those things and she never forgets to be phenomenal. Delyse is without a doubt one of my favourite people who is coming for every single thing this year. Check out her blog for all your body positivity content. I would highly recommend doing the Body Positivity Challenge that she curated, to give your body some extra love. I learn so much from her.

Let’s get into the questions and answers.

BOLAJI’S QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

What do you love most about being a woman?

Honestly, I don’t consciously think of myself as a woman or female. I mostly relate with myself and other people as Bolaji Gelax, the person and hardly ever as Bolaji Gelax of the female gender.
That said, I love that there are more varieties of beautiful yet affordable clothing items for women. Vain, yes but it is what it is.

Name a woman you admire/who inspires you.

Recently, it has to be Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala. I’m in awe of trailbazers. I also admire Issa Rae who inspires me to do more for the entertainment industry in my country. Her story mirrors my journey as a young creative and encourages me never to drop the ball.

What is one assumption about women that you would like to change?

That life is easier for us because we’re women. Which is ironic because these same people assume that women have to endure more hardships to be considered a “real woman”. What does that even mean?

What are you most grateful for right now?

I’m grateful for life, growth, my dreams and the grace to pursue them and for my Stars. I’m also very thankful for the privilege to impact and inspire people.

What would you like to say to women and girls today?

Know who you are and what you want, and let nothing stop you from achieving that. As my favourite saying goes;

“If you know where you are going, you will know what you should be doing” – Bolaji Gelax

DELYSE’S QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT BEING A WOMAN?

Being a woman means I am love embodied. Love flows through me and I believe that is powerful. I love that I am strong and resilient. The fact that I have the ability to carry life is absolutely magical. My body is pure art, every curve unique and beautiful. God created me delicately and with so much purpose. I love that the most.

NAME A WOMAN YOU ADMIRE OR WHO INSPIRES YOU.

I can’t say I have a specific woman who inspires me to be honest, but I think any woman who lives her life unapologetically and does not let anyone intimidate her into becoming someone else is absolutely admirable. I’m inspired by go getters, confidence, fighters and trailblazers.

WHAT IS ONE ASSUMPTION ABOUT WOMEN THAT YOU WOULD LIKE TO CHANGE?

I utterly detest the notion that women are weak and too emotional. I despise that men think we need our hands held by them in order to accomplish things. I believe fully that women are much stronger than men think because we are open about our emotions.

WHAT ARE YOU GRATEFUL FOR RIGHT NOW?

I am grateful for life and the opportunity to realise my dreams according to God’s plan for my life. To be able to trust God and let Him lead is something I will always be grateful for.

WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO SAY TO WOMEN AND GIRLS TODAY?

To all the women and girls,

Love yourselves first; wholeheartedly and unashamedly because no one else will love you the way you can. Do not let unbelievers sway you from living the life you deserve. Listen to your intuition and believe in your magic.

Thank you so much to Bolaji and Delyse for working with me during this series! I totally agree with their answers especially the assumptions they would like to change.

Now, I’d like to hear from you. Feel free to answer these questions in the comments and please let me know one assumption about women you would like to change.

I will be back next week! Don’t forget to check out Gelax Chatroom and Thick’N’Stylish!

Thanks for reading.
Love,
Wonani Xx

  1. I enjoyed reading this post so much, this is beautiful Wonani ❤️

I have so many assumptions I would like to change about women. One being that we are terrible leaders and we use emotions to make all our decisions. I find this very ridiculous because I don’t understand why we are being bashed for being human, emotional. Every time I pray for a new job, I also pray that I report a black woman because I want to change that assumption so bad.

Another one is the topic that I am covering on my post tomorrow, the assumptions around women and sex. I know you will definitely read more about it tomorrow.

I am a big fan of your work ❤️

  6. Such beautiful women inside-out! ❤️

Assumption about women that I’d like to change – there are so many. 1. We aren’t the weaker gender. Women are as strong as men – their equals. 2. There is no woman standing behind that successful man – she is standing right by his side and is as successful as he is.
