Where Have I Been? (& random thoughts)

It has been quite a while since I was here; be it sharing content or reading blogs. My last post was three weeks ago and it has been difficult finding time to blog again since then. So, where have I been?

Before we get into that, Happy New Month! I hope you have a blessed November. Only good things for you and yours. The months have been flying and I am struggling to keep up. Okay. Where have I been?

Blogging Goals for 2020

Is it too late to share my blogging goals for the year?

It feels strange to be back here after a long time. I took a sudden break from blogging as I needed time out to figure a few things regarding my blog and also because content creation is a struggle. This break I took led me to considering starting afresh and deleting this blog but obviously, I didn’t do that and here we are today. With new energy, a positive mindset and a good “why behind the blog”. Also, during the break I realised one problem I face with blogging is planning. I rarely plan my posts or think about them before I start writing. Usually I’m just caught up in the moment and start writing, edit and post. That seems like a good idea until months go by and you haven’t been “caught in the moment.”

So as a result, I decided to focus my energy into improving my blog and I took time to see where I want my blog to be at the end of the year. I came up with 6 blogging goals for the year and I’m going to share them with you.

1. Blog Consistently

This is something I struggled with throughout 2019. I was more consistent in 2018 but last year I just had so many things coming at me,I allowed the blog to fall back. This year, I intend to post every two weeks provided I am healthy physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually because no one wants to read forced work. In order to achieve that, I have already set out ideas for the next few months, which may change of course depending on what’s going on around me.

2. Change the Blog Name

So far, I’ve changed my blog name once. The first one, which I really liked, was stolen. I’m sure it was stolen. I didn’t have enough fight in me to go back and forth with the person over the name because first of all, where was my copyright? So, I changed it to “Dose of Wonani” which I don’t really like because there is nothing creative about it. Also, I never planned of having my name linked to my blog in such an obvious manner. It just made everything seem so personal and aggressive. Well to me it did. So now, I want to change it for hopefully the last time. I have a few great ideas that are waiting to be approved by my team (in my head). Changing a blog name comes with re-branding, making new posters and all that. It’s a lot of work. I’ll see how it goes.

3. Be More Organised

I want to put everything in order. I feel like right now everything is all over the place and so I want to set everything up in such a way that the blog is easy to navigate. I also want to have a fixed number of categories for my posts just so that things are easy to find. This is for my sanity as well as yours.

4. Be Professional

I have always highlighted how I write for myself before I write for others. This remains true to this day. However, I’d like for my blog to one day get recognition, to have guest writers and I’d also want people to enjoy reading the blog. This requires professionalism on my part and understanding that this is no longer just a hobby but is critical for my well being too.

I’d like to write articles in future and do a bit of freelance writing and what better place to start learning all that than here? Also, I learned the importance of having a niche in blogging and I’d like to seriously implement that as it guides the type of things I post. For now and for the foreseeable future, this remains a lifestyle blog which has so much to it and so I won’t be limiting myself. However, I do hope to one day branch off into what I’m really passionate about. As soon as I know what it is, I will. As such, it is important that I remain professional in my work because I’ll never know where the blog leads me.

5. Marketing and Advertising

I do not have a big social media following and I’ve just never thought it was necessary for me to share my blog posts EVERY SINGLE TIME. I must say though, that sharing the blog on social media brings in a lot of traffic. So I just have to master the art of social media marketing this year.

6. Collaborations

This is something I have never done! I would love to work with other bloggers and people who are specialized in different fields. Do a couple of interviews, have guest bloggers share their work and just interact with people. There are a few people I’m targeting right now and if that goes well, you will be seeing something new here. Just the thought of that is exciting.

Finally, if you have any interesting and specific topics you’d like me to write about, or questions you’d like answered, feel free to leave a comment below. I would love to hear from you!

2018 and The little things.

2018 was a good year. I don’t have anything major to landmark in 2018. I mean nothing like, “I graduated!” or “I got a new car!” or “I got a new phone!” and lastly “I wrote a book!”. My year was all about the little things like, “I took new courses this semester.”,”My housemate got me a coke.” “I wrote more this year.”, “I tried a new hair colour.” etc

Also, I feel like this is a good platform to let you know that I cry on the 1st of every year. I get so emotional at midnight. It’s amazing to think I just made it through 365 days and I am about to tackle another 365 days by God’s grace. That’s something worth crying about if you ask me.

For most of the year I kept looking for big signs of progress. Something huge to mark a new point in life. A big sign from heaven to show that God is looking out. Just something huge. I was forced to look for these “huge” things because at some points during the year, I felt like I could be doing better. I had points where I’d ask God why certain things are only happening for certain people. I felt like everyone is moving forward or being progressive but me.

You know what sucks the most about being in such a state? You begin to overlook the baby steps. “A journey of a thousand miles begins with a step.” Where is the lie bro where is the lie?! The amazing thing though is I came to a point where I realised I’m actually progressing. I realised that if I have to get to point Z, I’d have to go through point B,C,D and so on. It may not look like something big but if I have to achieve the huge thing I’m trying to, then I’ll have to go through small and seemingly insignificant victories along the way.

Coming to that revelation was a game changer for me. There are certain things I asked God for help with and to me it seemed like my prayers went unanswered only for me to realise, many months down the line, that He actually came through. Not in the big, loud way I expected Him to but He made use of the “little” things. Things I took for granted.

Little things for me may not be little things for you but whatever your “little things” are, I hope you are grateful for them. 2018 may not seem like it was a loud and significant year for you or maybe it had more downs than ups, just always be grateful for the little things. Hopefully I carry on in 2019 LOL.

Lastly, set your goals for the next year. Write them down in your notebook or diary. Be realistic please.  One of my goals for this year was to buy a new hard copy novel every month. I wasn’t being realistic. I know it seems easy but man!! Some months were harder than others. I should have 12 books by now but well I don’t even have 5. So be realistic. Write them down and go through them regularly or when we are six months into the year just to evaluate yourself.

Finally, I just wanna give a huge shout out to myself for being serious about blogging this year. Hopefully next year I’ll be a better blogger than I was this year. More consistency and better content. This is actually going to my list of goals for the year.

One last thing. Get out of your comfort zone. Try something new. Visit a new place. Hydrate. Dare to be different. Good different though. It’s the little things that matter.

See y’all next year.
